EFT is deeply rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where vital life energy flows through the body. TCM revolves around Qi, the vital life energy that flows through the body. However, it can lead to emotional distress and physical illness when disrupted.

Furthermore, tapping on specific points to restore the flow of Qi has been a part of TCM for thousands of years, notably in practices like acupuncture and acupressure. In contrast, EFT applies these principles in a manner accessible to everyone.

Moreover, EFT also draws upon Thought Field Therapy (TFT), developed by psychologist Dr Roger Callahan in the 1980s. However, he also noticed that TFT’s complexity and different tapping sequences for various emotional issues could hinder many individuals seeking self-help tools.

Believing in the potential of these energy-healing techniques and seeing room for improvement, Craig set out to make this therapy more accessible to the average person. He hypothesised that a simplified version of TFT could be equally effective.

Craig proposed that following different tapping sequences for other issues was okay. Instead, he suggested tapping on the same comprehensive set of meridian points that could address various emotional problems.

As a result of this hypothesis, he developed a standardised tapping sequence that people could quickly learn and apply to various emotional problems. Subsequently, This streamlined approach began the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

Craig’s goal was to empower people to help themselves. To this end, he began disseminating EFT widely. He provided EFT training materials at minimal cost and eventually made the EFT Manual available for free online, making EFT accessible to a global audience. His contribution has made a significant impact in the field of energy psychology and has helped countless individuals worldwide manage their emotional health.

Today, EFT is recognised globally, with numerous practitioners trained in this method. The beauty of EFT lies in its simplicity and effectiveness, a testament to Craig’s vision of a simple, powerful tool for emotional healing.
